More than in any other healthcare sales role, the veterinary sales representative calls on a very receptive and accessible audience. With around 3,800 veterinary premises spread widely around the UK, sales reps typically cover large geographic territories within their job. The vast majority of vet’s work in general practice and, being private sector, are very commercially aware.

Typically veterinary sales rep jobs require spending a lot of time on the road, but gaining appointments is considerably easier than in other healthcare sales jobs. Vets are very interested in clinical evidence and like to see supporting data. Reps have to be able to quickly identify key drivers within a practice in order to select which products to focus on.
This is a very competitive marketplace in which, unlike most pharmaceutical representatives, veterinary reps have considerably autonomy, able to agree pricing and deals, so they need good negotiating skills. They also need high levels of technical expertise. There are, however, no ABPI code requirements or constraints for veterinary sales jobs.

For veterinary sales jobs we need highly enthusiastic, motivated people with lots of stamina. Ideally, you will already be a veterinary sales rep with a successful sales record. Failing that, you may be considered if you are a science graduate, preferably in an animal based subject, and you are able to demonstrate strong communications and negotiation skills.
